An affordable, family-friendly cabin in a rustic setting that’s also within walking distance of restaurants and shops, Aloft Cabin sounds almost too good to be true. But this one-bedroom retreat is the real deal. It sleeps up to six people and sits among towering Ponderosa pines in a two-acre enclave where deer roam freely, hummingbirds sing during the day and owls hoot in the evening. If you’re lucky, you might even see herds of elk making their way among the trees and the trails.

Aloft Cabin is one of 35 cabins that make up Ruidoso’s Apache Village. Each knotty-pine cabin was built in the 1940s by an experienced carpenter and displays plenty of down-home charm. Aloft Cabin’s wood-paneled living area, for instance, boasts a vaulted ceiling and picture windows that allow you to revel in the sunshine even while you stretch out on the sofa or kick back in the armchair. Watch a movie on the flat-screen TV with cable, gather around the coffee table for a game of Uno, lose yourself in a good book: In other words, make yourself at home.

Sliding glass doors connect the living area to the spacious deck. For instant relaxation, bring a beverage outside, sit down at the table and take a deep breath of the pine-scented air… There’s nothing quite like it. Part of the deck is covered, providing welcome shade on steamy summer days.

The deck has a gas grill where you can barbecue trout reeled in from one of the nearby lakes or burgers from the even nearer supermarket. Of course, you can cook indoors too. Aloft Cabin’s kitchen includes a refrigerator/freezer, stove/oven, microwave and coffeemaker, plus cookware and tableware. Just off the kitchen is the dining table, large enough to seat six. Don’t feel like cooking? You can walk to Rio Grande Grill & Tap Room for brisket, Great Wall of China for moo goo gai pan, Grill Caliente for tacos… you get the idea!

Aloft Cabin’s primary bedroom is on the main floor. The comfortable queen-size bed all but ensures sweet dreams. Up in the loft is a second sleeping area, with a full-size bed. The kids will love it up here: It’s like sleeping in a treehouse, complete with a window providing a bird’s-eye view of the entire Apache Village. Additional guests can sleep in the living area; the sofa opens into another double bed. The beds will be beautifully made up by the time you arrive, and we’ll provide you with plenty of clean towels and extra bedding—no need to weigh down your luggage with linens from home.

You will want to pack your sports gear, though. Aloft Cabin is a five-minute drive from Grindstone Lake and Trail System and 10 minutes from both Alto Lake and Recreation Area and Lake Mescalero. All three lakes are regularly stocked with trout, and sometimes with catfish and bass as well. When you’re not fishing or boating, you can hike, bike or ride horses on the surrounding trails; Grindstone has a water park in the summer and disc golf as well.

Speaking of golf, numerous courses are nearby. If you prefer the slopes to the links, head to Ski Apache, New Mexico’s southernmost ski resort, where you can snowboard as well. When you want a break from outdoor activities, Ruidoso Downs, the Hubbard Museum of the American West and the galleries and boutiques of Sudderth Drive are all only minutes away.

One thing’s for certain: When you stay at Aloft Cabin, you’ll never be bored. For a vacation you’ll long remember, book your stay today—before someone else beats you to it!

Please remember that Ruidoso is a mountain town with snow and icy conditions during the winter. This can affect driving and parking conditions regardless of the property, driveway, or roads. 4x4 or chains may be required during winter months to access your home.

If you are trying to book within 48 hours of arrival please call 575-258-5200 during business hours to make any last minute reservations.

It was a good place to stay for our quick trip to Ruidoso. My boys loved the loft. A basic cabin with just enough amenities. Close to town and restaurants.

Place is close to downtown, cute but very small. Don’t think 6 people could fit in this cabin. Dog feed cost more than the actual over night stay.
