The convenience of High Chalet is tough to beat. In just 15 minutes you can be hiking or horseback riding in the Great Smoky Mountains National Park or on the slopes of Ober Gatlinburg Amusement Park and Ski Area; in less than 20 minutes you can drive to downtown Gatlinburg, home to restaurants, shops, the Guinness World Records Adventure, an aquarium, mini golf, arcades and more. Located on the second floor of a condo complex, High Chalet is an inviting home away from home. The open living/dining/kitchen area features a 60-inch flat-screen TV with cable and a DVD player, so after your day of biking or whitewater rafting, you can relax and watch a favorite movie. There’s also a fireplace, perfect for gathering around as you sip an après-ski brandy or hot chocolate. And you’ll never tire of gazing out the window at the lush woodlands and the Smoky Mountains just beyond.

Although High Chalet is close to scores of restaurants—barbecue, seafood, Italian, even fondue—sometimes nothing is as relaxing as eating in. The dining area has a table that seats four, and there’s room for two at the adjacent breakfast bar. The kitchen is impressively well equipped; you’ll find everything from a full-size refrigerator freezer and oven/stove to a microwave and a dishwasher, along with pots, pans and tableware.

High Chalet has two bedrooms, each with a queen-size bed and a flat-screen TV, as well as two full bathrooms. This makes the condo as well suited for two couples staying together as it is for a family. What’s more, the living area sofa opens into a queen-size bed, so that as many as six people can spend the night. While both bedrooms are equally spacious and restful, one has sliding glass doors that open onto a balcony. You can start your day watching the sunrise over the Great Smoky Mountains and end it enjoying a romantic nightcap under the star-studded sky.

The condo’s other amenities include free Wi-Fi and the condo complex has plenty amenities of its own that you can take advantage of during your stay. There’s a swimming pool for use in the summer, as well as two hot tubs for soothing your tired muscles after a day on the slopes, the hiking trail or the links. If you reel in some fresh trout from one of the nearby streams, you can cook it on the gas grill in the picnic area and savor it alfresco; the fresh mountain breeze is the perfect side dish. The complex also has a game room, where you’ll find a foosball table, shuffleboard and board games.

As comfortable and relaxing as High Chalet is, chances are you won’t be spending much time there, given how much there is to see and do nearby. In addition to the national park, the ski slopes and the excitement of downtown, there’s the Gatlinburg Arts and Crafts Loop, an 8-mile trail of more than 100 galleries, studios and shops. Golfers will appreciate being close to Bent Creek Golf Course, designed by British Open champion Gary Player and Gatlinburg Golf Course. What’s more, in the neighboring town of Pigeon Forge, the Tanger Mall offers bargains galore in more than 175 name-brand outlet stores. Pigeon Forge is also home to Dollywood, the Titanic Museum, music revues, dinner theaters… the list goes on and on.
